The Hon. James J. Keaney,

The Hon. Jim Keaney, formerly of the Ontario Court of Justice, is a partner at the firm.

Jim was called to the Bar in 1977, following graduation from Cornell University (B.S.) and the University of Ottawa law school. Jim also completed the Harvard Mediation course.

Jim was a partner with litigation boutique Hughes, Amys until his judicial appointment in 2003. He presided over a full range of criminal matters, including pre-trial resolution conferences, trials, appeals from Provincial Offences, and preliminary inquiries in complex cases.

He retired from the bench in 2021.

While in practice he was engaged in civil trials of all sorts, arbitrations, mediations, and appeals.

While in practice, he participated in numerous professional organizations and programs including Advocates’ Society, Defense Research Institute, and Canadian Bar Association. He chaired the Insurance Law section of the CBAO, and was editor of the Canadian Journal of Insurance Law.

Jim served as a volunteer governance committee member for a not-for-profit corporation.

Jim’s experience and expertise in law, dispute resolution, evidence and procedure enhances the firms resources by providing another dimension to the advice the firm provides.
