Data Science & Analytics

Our governance expertise is complemented by a sophisticated data analytics practice.

Anticipating and responding to governance trends and expectations benefits from new technology and data-driven strategies. We have established a team of data scientists and analysts that, in collaboration with other professionals within the firm, provide depth and insight into real corporate governance challenges. Through our data analysis capabilities and our expertise working with boards on legal, governance and communication matters, we are able to offer valuable insights into what leads to better corporate decision making.

We leverage public and proprietary datasets to benchmark organizations against their peers, understand emerging trends in governance and communicate those findings clearly and intuitively to our clients. We have extensive experience applying our data analytics techniques on behalf of our clients, including assisting boards and management teams by:

  • providing a more comprehensive assessment of the company’s corporate governance practices and comparative information to inform board and stakeholder engagement activities;
  • employing data visualization techniques to facilitate enhanced governance decision making for boards. By presenting complex matters through intuitive visualizations, we empower boards to make well-informed decisions; and
  • using predictive analytics to identify governance issues that are potentially of concern to the company’s stakeholders. This approach allows us to anticipate potential challenges and address them before they escalate.

Our comprehensive database provides structured and standardized corporate governance data going back over 20 years. We annually profile over 0+ companies, including TSX-listed companies and Crown corporations. The data is gathered from publicly available information and is managed internally to ensure that the information is standardized, comparable and reliable.

We are also often engaged by our clients to conduct a benchmarking exercise of their governance practices relative to their peers. This approach allows us to provide observations, and where appropriate, suggestions on governance approaches.
